The Charter Trustees for Mansfield District were established in 1974 by Statutory
Instrument as part of the process of local government re-organisation in
Mansfield.
The Trustees came into existence, when the old Mansfield Borough Council was
merged with Mansfield Woodhouse Urban District Council and Warsop Urban District
Council to form the new Mansfield District Council.
The principal role of the Charter Trustees is to maintain the civic regalia,
which is a collection of gifts and artefacts that were donated to the Town
during its days as a Borough and other gifts subsequently donated by past
Chairmen of the Council.
The Trustees meet twice a year and have powers to raise a precept on the
Council to repair any civic regalia, if necessary.
In 1974, the Trustees comprised of councillors from the wards of the former
Mansfield Borough which were Ladybrook, Cumberland, Broomhill, Pleasley Hill,
Sherwood, Ravensdale, Eakring, Oak Tree, Titchfield, Oakham, Berry Hill,
Lindhurst and Northfield.
Following the Boundary Review in 2010, these wards changed and the 22 wards
now represented are Abbott, Oakham, Brick Kiln, King’s Walk, Bull Farm,
Pleasley Hill, Racecourse, Ling Forest, Sandhurst, Newgate, Ladybrook, Oak Tree,
Grange Farm, Eakring, Portland, Broomhill, Penniment, Ransom Wood, Carr Bank,
Woodlands, Lindhurst, Berry Hill and Sherwood.
