The Cultural Services Manager provided a brief summary of the report.

The report proposes the acceptance of £89,680 grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Collections Fund. This grant is for 2 years for "Creative Women Together.

The Museums Association Collections Innovations and Engagement grants are available for outstanding ideas that make a strong link between the collection and the community.

The Museum Association’s Collections Innovation and Engagement grants are available for outstanding ideas that make a strong link between the collection the community. The value of each grant is up to £90,000 over a two year period.

Creative Women Together will be a coordinated, holistic and therapeutic project giving vulnerable or at risk women a special creative experience that they can be proud of. Through engagement with Mansfield Museum’s paintings, jewellery and ceramics collection and participation in visual arts, this project will enable women to be empowered to take positive control in their lives.

We will work closely with five partner service providers who will help us reach and provide support.

• Nottinghamshire Independent Domestic Abuse Service
• Nottinghamshire Women's Aid
• Jigsaw Support Scheme (hoarding addiction)
• Nottinghamshire Sexual Violence Support Services
• Changing Lives

In order to engage with women who experience more complex lives and transient lifestyles we will promote this work through The Maximising Independence Service (MIS), Mansfield CVS and Ashfield Voluntary Action and Mansfield’s Church network including Renew Wellbeing Group at the Mansfield Baptist Church.

The grant will be spent on activities including monthly hands-on arts sessions at clubs, co-curated creative opportunities, and weekly social groups for women to come together and share.

We will employ a part time Community Engagement Officer to work with the project’s community partners and act as a consistent friendly face and point of contact for the group leaders, participants and artists.

As an additional outcome, the participants will be developed as staff, volunteers or apprentices at the museum as a legacy for this work.

The Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Corporate and Finance stated that it is an excellent initiative and he applauded the Cultural Services Manager and her team for what will be a positive scheme for women in Mansfield.
Councillor Craig Whitby stated that he was happy to formally accept the Officers recommendations which was to accept the offer of the grant for £89,680 from the Esmee Fairbairn Collection Fund.

The member stated that he would formally sign and return the Decision Notice.
