21/31ACCEPTANCE OF FUNDING FROM ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND’S CULTURE RECOVERY FUND: GRANTS SECOND ROUNDACCEPTANCE OF FUNDING FROM ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND’S CULTURE RECOVERY FUND: GRANTS SECOND ROUND

The Cultural Services Manager summarised the report. The report recommends the acceptance of a grant from the Arts Council England’s Culture Recovery Fund: Grants Second Round of £60,080 towards the costs outlined in the application submitted on 25 January 2021. This grant was funded by DCMS resources.

The funding would be used for a number of activities that include:

• Activity to recruit new volunteers to help care for and interpret the museum collection and training to upskill the welcome team.
• The recruitment of a freelance Interpretation Producer to support the interpretation and content development of Mansfield Museum’s temporary exhibitions programme for 2022/23
• Funds to reskill Mansfield Palace Theatre’s workforce, in some cases re-certifying or re-introducing colleagues back into their former roles
• The recruitment of a Social Prescribing expert to build relationships with local link workers, help Cultural Services collate evidence from work during lockdown to build a future project around arts and health
• Funds to subsidise Mansfield Palace Youth Theatre throughout the transition from social distancing and to rebuild pre-pandemic participant numbers
• Funds to join forces with Youth Theatres in the region to offer a series of live or digital masterclasses, to build skills, confidence and connectivity with other young people.
• Commissioning three new pieces of live performance from local companies to be developed this summer and presented during the autumn 2021/Winter 2022 in non-traditional theatre spaces such as health centres, family hubs or food banks.
• Operational changes which will improve access and allow for social distancing to take place

The Portfolio Holder for Corporate and Finance advised that he was glad to see within the report that the DCMS had agreed that any underspend from the first round of funding due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic could be utilised for costs eligible under both the first and second round of the Culture Recovery Fund Grants Programmes.

The Portfolio Holder stated that within the report of particular interest had been the planned evidence gathering activity achieved by working with outreach workers in the community to learn how the Council have dealt with Covid and that at challenging time the Council had taken the opportunity to learn and drive forward for the benefit of the community.

Councillor Whitby stated that he was happy to approve the recommendations to accept the funding of £60,080 and the revenue budget to be amended.
